Fourteen

Today marks the fourteenth year that I’ve had the privilege of being Mrs. to Handsome Husband.

He’s my favorite human.

do you re-light your unity candle each year on your anniversary? i don’t recall who lent us the idea, but it’s such a sweet one. we’ve only actually remembered to dig ours out a few times, but it’s fun when we do.

“The woman was made of a rib out of the side of man; not made out of his head to rule over him, not out of his feet to be trampled upon by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be beloved.” (M. Henry)

Last year we celebrated with a marathon day of pre-op appointments in Portland for Little Man.

This year we put in a lawn– because we are glamorous like that. Apparently the traditional gift for a 14th anniversary is a blend of Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass.

I’m actually giddy about this gift, Lord knows it’s the most we’ve ever spent on our anniversary. It’s like Christmas up in here! Goodbye excessive dirt, dust, and mud, I will definitely NOT miss you.

The kids are excited to actually enjoy the backyard without my feeble laments to PUT YOUR SHOES ON when going out, and then TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF before coming back in.

Many generous hands make light[er] work. So grateful to Handsome Husband, neighbors (old and new), and Husband’s co-worker for the back-breaking labor. I was relegated to the interior of the house with the charge of keeping the kids out of the way. No problemo.

If anyone needs me today I can be found doing snow-angels in my gorgeous new lawn.
