March for Manatees

Two years ago, as part of her birthday gift from her dorky parents, Firstborn ran the Save the Manatee Virtual 5k. To clarify, she actually ran, biked, skated, scooted, kayaked, and roller-bladed the race. With the support of friends and family she raised $100 to send to the Save the Manatee Club, of which she’s a member.

For her recent birthday, we once again gifted her a race packet, and she’s been soliciting donations to send to the Florida-based nonprofit. This morning, alongside a troop of faithful friends and family, under a blanket of gray Oregon clouds, she marched 3.1 miles in tandem with like-minded folks across the nation (and in several foreign countries!) to advocate for these gentle giants, her favorite animal.

sporting this year’s official race shirt, she also outfitted her sister & cousins from her collection of manatee garb– including her previous race tee & fun manatee socks

I’m so proud of the young lady she’s becoming. For those inclined to donate to her worthy cause, email miarosebud@gmail for instructions.
