‘Twas a very merry Christmastide, indeed. The sum of our hijinks and revelry has certainly made the season bright. We are grateful for this annual blessing of festively acknowledging humanity’s long-awaited Messiah. Each of our zany customs points us to Him– the one who humbly descended to bring light to the darkness. We count down the days, and fill them with fun, basking in the glow of the vibrant life He’s afforded us.

Nigel the Nutcracker was a fresh addition
installed covertly on my folks’ front porch early in the season
and plugged in each time one of my sisters or I drove by and spied him deflated.
much older sister’s holly-jolly hubby propped up Buddy,
my gift to him in last year’s sibling gift exchange
and positioned him just inside their front window facing the street,
to the startling shock of neighbors and deliverymen alike
crafting doorknob surprises for their friends

Busted.
we even managed to bake Great Grandma Schafer’s famous Green Tree cookies
to the disgrace to Oregon herself, we purchased a faux tree this year anticipating the neglect our travel would inflict on a fresh-cut one
