Feeling especially grateful for the abundance of blessing in our lives this year, we opted to celebrate Thanksgiving not once but twice. My youngest, newlywed sister (alongside her groom) hosted for the first time at their new house, then Handsome Husband and I later hosted his family at our place.
we each submitted an entry in a friendly deviled-egg competition leaning aggressively on mustard, dill, and finely diced pickles & onion, I dubbed mine: Peter Piper’s Zipadee Doo Da Pickled Eggs Husband brought his A-game, topping his with bacon & a maple bourbon glaze he emerged the clear victor newlywed hosts in their newly remodeled kitchen my tacky contribution to her classy tablescape slipper club I [Costco] slaved away over the [store-bought] desserts at our house we roasted individual cornish hens in lieu of one big turkey brined, of course befuddled at the grocer’s undertaking my first-ever sweet potato casserole since the birds were so small we stuffed butternut squash (squtter nutbaush) instead combined green-bean casserole w/ mashed potatoes to craft an unconventional (albeit still traditional) [Schafer] shepherd’s pie Husband roasted heirloom carrots with more of that amazing maple bourbon glaze and his new toaster oven saved us we shuffled some furniture & used the library/formal dining room the way the original builder intended and converted my kitchen desk into a beverage station so fancy with our wee little birds side-dish buffet
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. Psalm 95:2
Enter into His gates with Thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise; be thankful unto Him and bless His name. For the Lord is good, His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endureth to all generations. Psalm 100:4-5
