Sometimes it feels like I’m surrounded by mothers: Mom, step-mom, mother-in-law, grandmother, spiritual mentor-mothers, a sister who’s a mom, a multitude of magnificent mommy friends… Mothers make the world go round and I’m blessed to be surrounded by a pack of them who inspire, instruct, and encourage.

“As iron sharpens iron, so one [mother] sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17, emphasis mine

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us…”  Hebrews 12:1, emphasis mine

To celebrate Mother’s Day we enjoyed a relaxing brunch with Husband’s mother and sister, swung by my Stepmom’s with flowers, and then went for a long, leisurely bike ride. My own adventurous mother is presently rafting down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.

To treat his mother, Husband grilled salmon and I made a Greek frittata and a fruit salad. Since Husband faithfully prepares 95% of the meals in our home to bless me daily it was actually fun to cook up something creative on Mother’s Day morning.

We hopped off our bikes to snap a quick pic (I’m actually in a photo! Shows how tall my babies are!) at a pond I’ve visited countless times throughout my life. In fact, back when we were sweethearts in high school, I gifted Husband a pair of kissing fish for Valentine’s, unaware he’d recently given up on his aquarium. In our teenaged haste to get on with our plans for the day, we drove them here and released them into the pond. I like to believe there’s a prolific population of kissing fish thriving there today because of us, make no mention of the fact that they were likely non-native species and quick fodder for hungry Bluegill.

Being a mother has been the greatest joy of my life. I’m so grateful for these three precious babes who call me Mom.
