Ni Hao, Zhengzhou

After an early morning departure and short flight from Beijing, we arrived in Zhengzhou this afternoon.

It’s been a long day of logistics and settling in, in anticipation of the culmination of our trip here: Meeting our son. We are exhausted and heading to bed soon, but tomorrow morning is the moment we’ve long been waiting for.

We’ve packed up diapers, toys and snacks, laid out clothes, and ventured to the local Walmart for a few last minute necessities for our boy (the formula that he is accustomed to and that we will slowly be weaning him from, etc).

Not all Walmarts are created equal. Does yours have live aquatic animals for sale in the meat department?

“Awwww, look at the cute turtles!” (These poor little guys are not pets, I’m afraid.)

All of us adoptive families meet our children at the Civil Affairs building tomorrow. We will spend the morning there before heading back to our hotel together. Though we will be taking it easy and hunkering down in our hotel for the next few days with him, we will also be completing random paperwork errands finalizing our official adoption. We expect to remain here in Zhengzhou for about a week.

I’m going to wrap this up and hit the hay now, as I likely won’t get a wink of sleep tonight. It’s our last night as a family of four. Though today was challenging with our very tired and very pent up girls (what with the airport, plane ride, bus ride, checking in, etc.), I’m so glad they are here with us. Tomorrow is a big day for all five of us.
