We are proceeding with our China adoption via the “Waiting Children” program. What this means is that we will be considering children from a list that might have been otherwise overlooked and have been waiting longer for their forever families- most often because they are considered “special needs” by the Chinese government. It’s reported that over 70% of orphans in China have been labeled as Special Needs for a variety of reasons including mental delays, physical deformities, birth marks, sight or hearing impairment, or correctable conditions such as heart defects or cleft lip/palate. Sometimes just the fact that a child is older than two years old could mean he/she is considered a special needs child. Once we get to the point in the adoption process where we are waiting for a referral, our agency will work with us to make the most logical match. Ultimately, Alex and I have the final say in which conditions we feel we can take on. We believe that every child is precious to God and we are just eager to follow His lead and to expand our family.
Here is yet another inspiring video of a remarkable family that has adopted several “special needs” children that will certainly pull on your heart strings.
