Dedication

“I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of Him.” 1 Samuel 1:27

Today, before our local congregation, on World Adoption day, we dedicated our precious Little Man to the Lord. In truth, we dedicated ourselves as parents to raising Him in a Christ-centered, God-honoring home.

We did this with both of our girls when they were babies. It is not a baptism– we believe baptism to be an outward symbol, or declaration, of an established inward relationship with the Lord, much like circumcision was to the Israelites of the Old Testament. We desire for our children to make their own proclamations of faith when they are old enough to truly comprehend and articulate their beliefs.

Our church does these services only a couple times per year, and it just so happened that one of our neighbors’ college-aged daughter also chose today to be baptized. We were blessed to hear her testimony of the Lord’s provision and direction in her life, which led her to this act of biblical obedience. With additional neighbors by our side, the children of Goldenrod Lane watched enrapt as their beloved piano teacher and baby-sitter professed her love for Christ. I’m so grateful for such role-models for our children.
