The only thing better than a good book is a good book series. We’re presently reading aloud the Mysterious Benedict Society series, but in our very first year of homeschool we ventured through the wardrobe into wintry Narnia with The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe and subsequent volumes. This week’s WTRW is all about lions and our favorite all-powerful, paternal Panthera Leo (family: Felidae) is, of course, Aslan…
“Aslan is a lion– the Lion, the great lion… ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.” – C.S. Lewis
“Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight, At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more; When he bears his teeth, winter meets its death; And when he shakes his mane, we shall have Spring again.” – C.S. Lewis
The Chronicles of Narnia are foundational, skillfully written and ripe with Christian allegory– timeless modern classics. Think of them as part of your essential “Greatest Hits” of read-alouds, and enjoy the films as you complete each book. I can’t wait to go back to Narnia next year when Little Man starts homeschooling.
