Our first baby turned FIFTEEN this week. A birthday in the midst of a global pandemic is hardly a picnic… isolated from friends and family, and the DMV, the bulk of our best-laid plans for our teen were squashed and improvised festivities less than traditional. Doing our best to make the day memorable despite social distancing, it was ripe with shocks and surprises, and she quickly dubbed it her “Heart-Attack Birthday.“
she woke to a smoothie delivery from her daddy and opened some gifts she was startled by (and shrieked at) the life-size cutout of her favorite pirate legend just outside her bedroom door then we snuck the real pirate in for a surprise quarantine exception her bestie’s family snuck a player organ onto our front driveway, piping jovial circus tunes into the neighborhood at incredible volume one of her aunties (and soon-to-be uncle) sneakily chalked the sidewalk with a special birthday greeting and the biggest surprise of all was a surprise birthday parade of friends & family willing to celebrate within the metes of social distancing seeking to be covid-compliant, we had her pass out individually wrapped rice-krispie treats in lieu of cake, with an extender grabber thingy she was blessed by the overwhelming outpouring of love her daddy cooked her a special dinner & her sister made her a lovely, fruity dessert
By the end of the day she was jubilant; what we anticipated to be the lamest of birthdays turned out to be pretty darned special and fun. Happy birthday to our precious Firstborn, we love you more than we could ever express and are exceedingly, abundantly grateful God chose us to be your parents.
