Year of the Monkey
It’s that time of year again– Chinese [lunar] New Year! This coming Monday, the 8th, commences the Year of the Monkey. Festivities will be a touch piecemeal for our household this year –what with the Superbowl and all- but we will observe it nonetheless. Husband put the kibosh on our usual floating lanterns, citing concern about fire hazard and…

Anne of Green Gables, My Daughter, and Me {book review}
Gather round, all Kindred Spirits and Bosom Friends, I have something more scrumptious than raspberry cordial to share with you today… Did you grow up on all things Green Gables? My grandmother fell in love, was married, and gave birth to my own mother on Prince Edward Island. Decades later, she would travel back from the…

M-I-A
Confession time… I’ve been M-I-A (<—never gets old) and all’s been quiet on the blogging front for two very specific reasons: #1) I’m reading and reviewing another incredible book. It’s GOOD. Neglecting-all-housework-and-leaving-the-kids-to-forage-their-own-meals Good. Can’t-put-it-down-yet-deliberately-pacing-myself Good. I actually lamented to Handsome Husband yesterday that homeschooling was seriously imposing upon my leisure reading. I can’t wait to share…

Busy Moms Do Piano
You’d never know it now, but I took weekly piano lessons for ten years of my childhood. I quit as a teen to focus on cheerleading (what??), and the powers that be promptly traded the family piano for a pool table. Today, I can scarcely plink out Hot Cross Buns, and am hardly a help to…

State of the Homeschool Address
School-life is so much more peaceful now, since streamlining the kids’ extra-curricular activities… even homeschoolers fall prey to the frenetic “more is more” hustle, sometimes. We all just want the best for our kids, and mom-guilt is a real thing, y’all. Firstborn hopes to attend full-time traditional school for sixth grade next fall, and I’ve frankly…

Daddies Don’t Babysit
It seems that whenever I manage to sneak away, sans children, my grandma randomly calls looking for me. After Husband fills her in on my whereabouts, without fail she paraphrases back, “Oh, so you’re babysitting.” Bless her heart, she doesn’t know what she doesn’t know. Husband’s feelings aren’t exactly hurt, but the comment always garners…

We Were On a Break
We were all grateful to enjoy a wee break over the Christmas holiday before starting school afresh in the new year. We’re back to the homeschool grind today, hopeful for success with our modified schedule for the new year.

Resolute
In years past I’ve made (and kept!) ambitious resolutions for the new year… One year I read the entire Bible. Another year I fasted from chocolate. A different year, motivated by an upcoming mission trip to Africa wherein our team was instructed to never pick our noses for fear of getting sick abroad, I made that…
